Nonsense, a collaborative art zine, is a project I share with co-creator Marcella Rose. After spending a semester admiring zines in NYC, we were inspired to create a publication showcasing the incredible talent of our friends, classmates, and fellow Cincinnatians; this led us to publish the collection of paintings, poems, photographs, sketches, and ideas now known as Nonsense issue 1. The semester spent producing Nonsense was very process-intensive. We first asked for submissions from a wide variety of people, then we sorted these submissions into piles organized by aesthetic or subject matter. Next was a long process of editing, recategorizing, and repositioning the submitted artwork into potential spreads. Finally we landed on 15 spreads we loved. We scanned these 15 spreads, made final edits, scanned them again, and printed. The final step was cutting out and assembling 50 copies of the zine.
